Hosting a Pool Party
A beautiful pool seems like the natural destination for a party, but hosting a successful pool party requires a bit of planning. Landscaping should be spruced up, the pool and patio should be clean, and any outdoor updates you’ve been putting off should be done.
Pick a Theme
Pricking a theme will help you decide on colors, decor, food, and drinks. For example, a Mardi Gras party would feature bright purple, gold and green decorations, feathers and beads. Serve shrimp cocktail, jambalaya, andouille and Cajun-inspired cocktails.
Provide Plenty of Food
If you want guests to stay the day, it’s essential to provide food, even just a table of appetizers. If you’re hosting a high-end soiree, you may choose to have the food catered, but if it’s a laid-back party, then a cookout or potluck will work.
Don’t Forget Drinks
Whether you choose to have cocktails or refreshing nonalcoholic beverages, drinks should be in line with your theme. You can come up with creative names for each drink to fit your theme. Be sure to have ice on hand and cute cups to serve them in. If it’s a kid-friendly party, opt for paper cups.
Entertainment
A pool is pretty much entertainment central during a pool party, but be sure to provide alternative entertainment. A lounge area with a television under a covered patio can provide shade and relaxation, while yard games like corn hole and darts can give people something else to do.
BYOT
Unless you want to wash a million towels, include in your invitation a BYOT (Bring Your Own Towel) reminder. Keep a few towels on hand for guests that forget, but this will save you a lot of time and energy!
