The Highs and Lows of Pool Construction
Rain. Underground Wiring. Plumbing. These are just a few things that could delay your pool construction, no matter how good your builder is. Here are 6 considerations to keep in mind when you decide to add a pool to your backyard:
- Choose a Professional
- Pick Your Pool
- Utilities Check
- The Dig
- Framing
- Filling & Finishing
1) Choose a Professional
Choosing a reputable pool builder will save you stress and money. Going with the cheapest bid will often get you a lot of headaches and additional expenses trying to fix mistakes a less experienced builder might make.
2) Pick Your Pool
Consulting a professional pool builder is a good idea to help you determine which size and shape will be a good fit for your yard as well as determining possible maintenance costs. Make sure to have the most up to date zoning and building restrictions for swimming pools and spas.
3) Utilities Check
Before any excavation can begin, your proposed pool site will need to be checked for underground utilities. This may require several surveys from your electrical company, water company and more.
4) The Dig
The excavator will dig a big hole in your backyard, making a big mess of your previously nice looking lawn. Don’t worry! It’ll be worth it. The hole will be larger than the pool itself, to allow workers room to walk around it and run the wiring/plumbing.
5) Framing
The type of pool you pick will determine what kind of framing is used, but for most, it’ll be steel panels. This step is crucial for the stability of your pool. Steel panels are then reinforced with concrete.
6) Filling & Finishing
The last step in your pool construction is to fill it, usually with concrete. Custom water features like scuppers or slides are also added. From there the finish you chose is added and the final touches are put into place. When everything has cured, you just add water!
The Perfect Backyard Waterscape
There are many factors that go into building your perfect backyard waterscape. It may take as little as six weeks to build your custom pool, but if you’re waiting on permits and city approvals it could take up to 3 months. Be patient, and trust your pool builder!
